Is it true that when we buy Viagra online pharmacy from a reputable source, we may not only be paying for pills that would help treat our erectile dysfunction, but we may be paying for a drug that can help us lower our blood pressure, if high?

Though the internet is a non-traditional source that presents myriad of offers for people who want to buy Viagra cheap online – this source is also fraught with sharp practices – it is possible that if we conduct our research properly, we could be making the difference between life and death.

Since making its debut in the ED market more than a decade ago, the citrate salt of sildenafil has shown no sign of flagging on what could be regarded as its stranglehold of the market.

And this is in spite of the massive competition it faces from close substitutes and reported cases of severe side effects that it produced among its users.

Viagra tablets online, according to two studies conducted in May 2005 in San Francisco, may in fact be helpful to a man’s heart, and hypertensive men stand a high chance of becoming impotent.

"It is on record that Middle-aged and older men are more liable to suffer from erectile dysfunction, and it is also this group of people that are at risk of not having their blood pressure under control,’ Daniel T. Lackland, professor of epidemiology and medicine at the University of South Carolina in Charleston, was quoted as saying.

According to Greek researchers who reported at the American Society of Hypertension's 20th Annual Scientific Meeting and Exposition, treating impotent men who are also suffering from high blood pressure with Viagra reduces the stiffness of the blood vessel, which is an indicator of atherosclerosis and a risk factor for heart ailments.

Lackland added further that the studies showed that while treatment with Viagra may improve aortic stiffness in men, blood pressures should be checked and then controlled among impotent men.

It is on record that approximately 65 million Americans have high blood pressure, a risk factor for heart disease, kidney disease and stroke. And 20 million American men have some degree of erectile dysfunction, according to estimation.

The Blood Pressure and ED connection

According to Greek researchers, erectile dysfunction and blood pressure are not only connected, but the risk of erectile dysfunction in men with high blood pressure is more than twice as high when compared to men with normal blood pressure.

Michael Doumas, MD, from the fourth department of internal medicine at the University of Athens in Greece, affirmed this when he said that their research showed that high blood pressure increases the likelihood of erectile dysfunction in men.

In the study involving 358 hypertensive men between the ages of 31 and 65, questionnaires evaluating ED, as specified by the International Index of Erectile Function, were given to all the men to complete. Comparing the completed questionnaires with that of a group of men without high blood pressure, the researchers reported their findings thus:

• Out of the men with high blood pressure, thirty-five percent had some degree of erectile dysfunction, with about 9.2% reporting severe impotence.

• 89 of these hypertensive men had never used hypertension treatment, with one-fifth of this 89 having erectile dysfunction.

• Of the 160 who were on medication to control their blood pressure, 36% had erectile dysfunction.

• Of the 107 who were taking two or more medications to control their blood pressure, 47% had erectile dysfunction.

Of the men without high blood pressure, by contrast, 14.1 percent had some degree of ED, with only 1.5% of these men having severe impotence.

Sildenafil citrate, popularly known as Viagra, is the popular erectile dysfunction treatment exclusively distributed and marketed by the leading pharmaceutical company in the world, Pfizer. Originally formulated as a treatment for hypertension and angina pectoris by a group of pharmaceutical chemists,  Viagra tablets were found not to be effective for the treatment of angina. However, they produced an unexpected side effect: They caused erection in men who took them. After further studies and tests, the drug became approved in 1998 as the first oral erectile dysfunction by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Since becoming available in the market, the drug has gone on to achieve unprecedented success in the treatment of men who have a kind of impotence known as erectile dysfunction. Such is the success of this diamond-shaped, magic blue pill that other manufacturing rivals to Pfizer devised close substitutes to tap into the enormous opportunity that the erectile dysfunction market offered. Also, other pharmaceutical companies are cashing in on the revolution by using generic names to lure mainly those people who want to buy Viagra cheap deals to their sites.

In February 2007, boots the chemist piloted a scheme to sell Viagra over the counter. Under this scheme, men between the ages of 30 and 65 years would be able to buy Viagra online with no prescription in three branches in Manchester, England.
For a drug that has generated so much headlines since making its debut over a decade ago, just what is it about Viagra that has made it stand the test of time, even in the face of fierce competition from other companies? To understand this drug better, it is pertinent to understand the process involved in erection. This would make one understand how Viagra seamlessly integrates into this pathway, with little or no natural disturbances which Viagra’s predecessors were fraught with.

How does the penis become erect?
To understand how the penis becomes erect, it makes for an easy lay-man explanation if we could mentally picture a balloon. A balloon is limp when it has no air in it. When the limp balloon is inflated with air, it starts to swell until it becomes turgid. Likewise, the penis becomes erect through a similar way. Instead of the pressurised air that the balloon needs to become turgid, the penis needs pressurised blood. Present in the penis are two long tubes that are similar to cigars in shape.

These tubular structures are known as the corpora cavernosa and are responsible for the erection of the penis.
Blood flow into the cigar-shaped structures by way of the arteries, while the veins take the blood away from the corpus cavernosa. The limpness or erection states of the penis are both determined by which direction the blood flows. A limp penis is one whose arteries are constricted and whose veins are open. And in this way, the build up of blood in the penis is not enhanced. When a man is sexually aroused, the arteries carrying pressurised blood into his penis opens up and the veins constrict. These dilation and constriction of the arteries and the veins respectively allows for the rush of blood – carried by the arteries – into the corpus cavernosa, which can not then escape with the closed veins.

However, a man suffering from erectile dysfunction does not experience this normal path way. The rate at which blood flows into the corpus cavernosum of his penis is faster than the rate at which the blood flows out. What Sildenafil does is to reduce the rate at which the blood flows out of the penis by a series of process, starting with the release of nitric oxide into the corpus cavernosum.

In the world of drug dispensing, two phenomena have been found to be simultaneously occurring in recent times. The first is the availability of pharmaceuticals from sources other than the customary chemist and physician. The second is the mass advertising that promotes self-medication for common conditions like erectile dysfunction, e.g. people buying from the internet without getting a prescription. As one of the most advertised pharmaceutical drugs, Sildenafil Citrate or Viagra, as it is commonly known, is so popular that it is purported to make sex possible for millions of men suffering from a kind of impotence known as erectile dysfunction, which involves the inability of a man to achieve or sustain an erection long enough for sexual penetration. According to slick adverts, men using Viagra are not only able to complete a sexual act, they are able to do so in a stud-like manner.

To the viewing public, the use of Viagra tablets is deceptively simple: Just wait for the amazing result after popping a tablet – isn’t this incredible? As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it is possible it is.

However, both the blue pill itself and its use have been shown by studies to be significantly more complex than people realise. Sildenafil citrate is a complex medication. As a result, must be administered carefully. Also, while Viagra tablets are marketed to older and middle-aged men who are often suffering from other health problems, certain medical conditions – e.g. stroke – exist that make a man unsuitable for the use of the drug. Anyone who is suffering from any cardiovascular condition that prohibits him from having safe sex is also expected not to use sildenafil citrate. Also, because of the different types and causes of erectile dysfunctions, Viagra may not be able to proffer an effective treatment to all of these.

Even a physician that has adjudged the suitability of a man to take Viagra would still have to consider the effective usage of the drug; in terms of the correct dosage that would work best for the man. If, after going through the proper channels, a man would want to consider buying generic Viagra because of its cheaper price, it is advised that he uses it only he has got advice from his medical doctor.

What if a man with Erectile Dysfunction decides to buy Viagra online with no prescription? The drugs sold on the internet provide him with a ready option. The unfortunate thing in this, however, is that a great number of the medications sold here are fake. With the explosion of internet sites selling pharmaceutical drugs and the consistent inundation of e-mails with irresistible offers of selling name-brand pharmaceuticals at bargain deals, these drugs couldn’t have been more available to end-users.

A major question that still arises: Is that generic Viagra the ideal bargain? Or is it just some formulation mixed together in a laboratory where there is little or no regulation from government to ensure prohibition on the sale of fake drugs?

Without getting a sound medical advice, buying Viagra cheap online becomes a matter of chance. So what does one do when one is made an irresistible offer of getting bargain prices for generic Viagra? Of course look into the offer, but don't take everything you hear to face value. Check the site for authenticity. It is possible, in practice, that someone who under normal circumstance wouldn't want to use drugs purchased on a street corner because of its questionable source may end up buying a potentially harmful drug from a less-than-reputable online source.
