Has there been any attitudinal change towards sex since the advent of Viagra?
Generally known as that formulation that was serendipitously discovered by a group of pharmaceutical chemists working together at the Pfizer research facility in Sandwich, Kent, Viagra became the first oral erectile dysfunction drug after gaining approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration in 1998.
Since becoming available in the market that same year, Viagra tablets have been implicated by many as a major factor in the busting of the hitherto existing barriers on the discussion of sexual problems, and what is more an increased emphasis on the improvement of sexual activity in a relationship.
Though the authoritativeness of this latter claim might be argued, especially if we consider a typical Hollywood movie scenario – in existence long before the discovery of Viagra – that somewhat idealises the depiction of its sexual scenes.
Not only are these sexual scenes totally void of the pauses and clumsiness that real life sexual situations are known to be filled with, there has always been the tendency for the viewing public to want to believe and practise what they have watched.
Is it that such movies promote herd instinct? One would ask.
A failure to achieve this idealised concept about sex could, however, lead to psychological problems. Whether these people would readily come forward to discuss their awkward sexual situations with their doctors during the pre-Viagra era is however a matter of conjecture, with the inference leaning more towards them bottling up the problem.
Fast forward to the Viagra era, and Furedi, a professor from Kent University, gave his opinion on the issue when he said that there have been some fundamental changes in the attitude of people towards sex during the past thirty years.
The availability of Viagra tablets and the other phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors – Levitra and Cialis – have influence the decision of more people to come forward to demand for such pills from their doctors, especially after watching such films that discuss sex in intimate and frank details like Sex In the City and Entourage, according to Furedi.
Generally, a request to buy Viagra tablets is normally made by anyone whose erectile dysfunction has been engendered by underlying medical conditions. However, the vast number of internet sites that spring up to serve the ever increasing demand for Viagra with no prescription rubs hard against the grain of the maker for the sale of Viagra tablets as a prescription drug.
This is a practice that is especially prevalent among the younger generation who often see Viagra tablets as a means to fulfilling their dreams of improving their sexual prowess.
These young people would always argue that Viagra is an aphrodisiac that elevates their sexual performances.
Any avenue that would improve the ease of availability of Viagra tablets by the National Health Service, so that the activities of the fake online dealers could be checked, is always a welcome development to the online buyers of Viagra.
What factor can be attributed to the popularity of Viagra among the younger generation?
Viagra is the first oral ED drug to be approved by the FDA, and still maintains its position as the most popular drug in the ED market. This popularity is due to its efficacy in producing very solid erection among men who have ED.
The enormous success achieved by this drug, due mainly to its ability to produce rock-hard erection among men that are certified impotent, has seen the popularity of Viagra tablets soar among the young and the old.
It is this ability to produce very solid erection that has made Viagra tablets so popular among the younger generation. The firmer the erection, the greater the sex, this young generation believe.
